For many people, Snapchat, unlike other popular social media networks like Facebook and Instagram, may be overwhelming. I reinstall the program on a regular basis to stay up with what my friends are up to since I can’t keep up with the never-ending grind for Snapstreaks and filters. You’ve come to the perfect place if you don’t want to be subjected to peer pressure to keep your Snapstreaks going or simply want to take a break from the messaging app. We’ll go through how to deactivate or delete your Snapchat account in detail in this article.

Deactivate or Delete Snapchat Account (2022)

We’ve included instructions for deactivating and deleting your Snapchat account, as well as how to export your Snapchat data. If you’re going to erase your Snapchat account permanently, you might want to request your account data in case you need it later.

Download Snapchat Data Before Deleting Your Account

Before deactivating or deleting your Snapchat account, you can choose to download a copy of your data. Here’s how to do it:{}

1. Sign in to Snapchat’s accounts portal in a desktop or mobile browser and click the “My Data” button.

2. Scroll down until the end and click the “Submit Request” button to request your Snapchat data.

3. You will now see a confirmation message acknowledging the request. Based on the data volume, it might take a while to receive the email with details to download your Snapchat data. You can then proceed to delete your Snapchat account.

Deactivate Snapchat Account

1. Open the Snapchat accounts portal and click on “Delete My Account”.

2. Enter your Snapchat credentials, namely username & password, and click “Continue” to proceed further.

3. That’s all there is to it. A confirmation message will appear, stating that your Snapchat account will be terminated soon. You have 30 days to restart your Snapchat account if you change your mind. Instructions for reactivating your Snapchat account can be found in the next section.

Reactivate Snapchat Account

If you change your mind about leaving Snapchat, you can reclaim your account. The caveat is that you must reactivate your account within the next 30 days. Your account will be suspended for the first 30 days and then completely erased after another 30 days, according to the company’s help page.

However, we found contradicting material claiming that you have 180 days from the reactivation screen to reactivate your account (as shown in screenshots below). There appears to be an internal miscommunication here, and the current 60-day deadline should be assumed for the time being. With that in mind, here’s how to get your Snapchat account back online:

1. Reactivating your Snapchat account is straightforward. All you have to do is sign in to the app again using your username and password.

2. Tap “Yes” on the reactivation confirmation window to regain access to your account. As previously said, it’s unclear whether Snapchat has extended the time for reactivating the account. We contacted Snapchat for confirmation and will update this article if we receive a response.

How To Delete Snapchat Account

If you’ve had enough of Snapchat and believe you’d be better off without it, you can delete your account instead. The processes to deactivate and remove the account are the same, however, for added clarity, see the instructions below.

1. Visit Snapchat’s web account portal and click on “Delete My Account“.

2. From the next page, enter your username and password, and click the yellow “Continue” button.

3. Your Snapchat account has been successfully erased. If you don’t manually reactivate your account later (within the specified reactivation period), Snapchat will erase your account permanently.

Easily Deactivate or Delete Your Snapchat Account

While the lack of an in-app option to simply deactivate or cancel a Snapchat account is upsetting, you can always go to the company’s web accounts interface to do so. We hope this article was useful if you were going to do just that.
