Google I/O 2021

Google had its I/O developer conference completely cancelled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic but this time it is ready to make ‘big reports.’ This year’s Google I/O 2021 is gratuitous to all, and this month’s date for the Mountain View Giants was announced. In this article we will look at the expected reports from the event. Google I/O 2021 is completely virtual.

Event dates

Google I/O 2021 is scheduled to take place from 18 May until 20 May. Right now you can register on the dedicated event website of Google for the event. You can take part in workshops after registration, AMA sessions, live queries and questions during sessions, developer profile badges… In addition, it could also be expected at the event that key consumer products are announced.

Where to catch the event Google I/O 2021?

Like always, on the official Google YouTube channel, you can see Google I/O 2021 keynote. The event connection is not available as of now, but if this post is available, we will update it with the event link. In addition, for specific events, you can remain tuned to the I/O website.

What can you expect from Google I/O 2021?

With the basics gone, we can expect you to be announced at the event with the exhilarating hardware and software:

1. Android 12

One of the most important highlights of the event is Android 12. While Google will not complete its finished Android 12 Pixel phone build soon after the event ends, the first Android 12 beta release might be expected. In the meantime, from our linked article, you can find the best Android 12 features.

If you’re out of the loop, Google has released three previews of the developer. In May, June, July, and August, four beta releases will be released. Android 12 will reach platform stability in August, and you could expect the stable Android 12 release sometime in September.

As last year, Android 12 beta builds for specific devices alongside Pixel phones could be anticipated by OEM partners. This will notably be Pixel 3 and 3 XL’s final major Android update. The pixel devices for Android 12 are here:

  • Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL
  • Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL
  • Google Pixel 4
  • Pixel 4a and Pixel 4a (5G)
  • Google Pixel 5

2. Google Pixel 5a

Okay, let’s discuss the Pixel 5a. After rumors of the cancellation of Pixel 5a, Google stepped up to disclose that Pixel 5a is not canceled. Moreover, the company revealed that we might expect the launch of the device to match the Pixel 4a presentation of last year. Pixel 4a was launched in August, last year, in case you don’t remember.

This is where stuff gets interesting. Google, in the ideal world, would have announced the I/O 2020 pixel 4a, like the I/O 2019 pixel 3a series. However, the launch has been pushed to August since I/O 2020 has not happened. Going by, Google may announce the Pixel 5a at the I/O 2021 for August and even June, with the market available.

The Hardware Front is rumored to have the same Snapdragon 765 SoC as a 6.2-inch Full HD + OLED display shown on the 4a 5G and Pixel 5 pixels. With all this, availability is an area in which there is little or no reason to be excited. A spokesman for Google confirmed that the Pixel 5a 5G is limited to the United States and Japan.

o, what about the BIS certification of the alleged GR0M2 Pixel 5a and the report ET Telecom shed light on the big Indian push of Google? Well, neither are we sure. The global chip shortage has probably forced Google to stop and tap its ambitious plans to expand its country presence. If Google misses the launch of the 5a5G Pixel in India, this might mean that there’s no new pixel phone budget this year in India. This allows Pixel fans to travel to India last October with Pixel 4a. Of course, in India, it’s not a good time to become a Pixel fan, and it’s far from ideal. Google, do something. Oh, do something.

Pixel Buds A

The next real wireline earbuds expected to start at the event are Google Pixel Buds A. A. It was rumored to be launched in April, with Google I/O 2021 being the next best time frame. A recent marketing email where Google accidentally leaked the Pixel Buds A design is further proof of its existence. Spoiler Alert: they look like pixel Buds 2, but they look like a green shade.

We don’t know much about Pixel Buds A in terms of specifications. If the ‘A’ brand is to be assessed, the Pixel Buds can be a cheaper variant. Furthermore, a recently reported 9to5Google suggested that there could be no signs of control of the volume for Pixel Buds A. Therefore, don’t get the new pixel budget A high. The real successor of Pixel Buds 2 will have to wait a little longer.

What chipset announcement?

Whitechapel codenamed rumors of Google’s in-house SoC began last year. A report from 9to5Google last month details Google’s plans to use its own chipset after a year’s silence, starting with Pixel 65G, earlier this month. For the long-awaited Whitechapel chipset, Google seems to have teamed up with the large-scale Samsung Semiconductors System (SLSI) division.

In terms of technical tidbits, it will be an octa-core chipset produced in the 5nm process of Samsung, as reported recently. It may contain two ARM Cortex-A78 nuclei, two Cortex-A76 nuclei, and four Cortex-A55 nuclei. While it isn’t expected that Google will announce the Pixel 6 in I/O 2021, the Whitechapel chipset is probably announced by Google, so developers know when and when it will be ready.

OS Improvements and New Nest Hardware

With Fitbit owned by Google, we could expect the business to announce the wear OS and Fitbit OS improvements at I/O 2021. Interestingly, as revealed in the I/O schedule, Google might drop ‘OS’ and simply call it Google wear. The new Nest hardware products will also be announced. A rumored Pixel Watch is also possible, but even leaks indicate a release date in October.

Google and CEO Sundar Pichai told investors that they were expecting “major product updates & advertisements” in Alphabet’s Q1 2021 income call. There is also room at the event for a host of product advertisements.

Improvements to Google Assistant

Google typically announces massive upgrades in its I/O voice recognition technology, for instance, Duplex, Google Assistant’s next generation. Google I/O 2021 will be the perfect time to show the company’s progress throughout the year with Assistant. However, the company has already announced several updates to assistants, including improved pronunciation exactness and natural talks using BERT (Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers). We could also get a glimpse into Stadia, the cloud gaming efforts of Google’s future.

It summarises our Google I/O 2021 expectations. What are you most excited about these announcements? If I had to select one, it should be the Whitechapel chipset of Google and its capacities in-house, closely monitoring Android 12. In the comments, share with us your expectations.
