Bluetooth AAC Audio Support in Windows 10

Finally, Microsoft adds Bluetooth audio support to AAC on Windows 10. AAC support is now live in a blog post in the most recent Windows Insider build. In the Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 21370 in the Dev channel, Microsoft specifically added AAC support.

“Enjoy premium audio streaming quality wirelessly on your Bluetooth headphones and speakers with AAC codec. Short for Advanced Audio Codec, AAC is a lossy codec that delivers high-quality audio streaming in smaller files – great for listening to music online,” wrote Microsoft in its blog post.

Windows has until now limited SBC and aptX to Bluetooth users. This add-on will improve Windows’ compatibility with Apple’s headphone line-up. The native iTunes application is also able to benefit from the change, which is long overdue for replacement on Windows. Back in November 2019, Apple hired developers to build the next generation of Windows media applications.

In addition to AAC the pair of Bluetooth headsets on Windows 10 is simplified by Microsoft. Windows is currently displaying multiple audio endpoints that could confuse users. In the future, Windows will display a single endpoint and switch profiles easily.

Additional changes to the new Insider construction include icon adjustment of the Address Bar of File Explorer, improved Touch Keyboard launch animation, and various bug fixes and changes. If this Windows 10 build is going to be tested right now, you may login to the Insider programme from the Settings app (settings -> Update & Security ->Windows Insider Program). However, you could be in errors because Insider builds are not intended for the general public.
